I’m from Beruwala no foreigners buy stones from the street only locals buy it’s not mandatory but foreign people gets office or table out the to buy stones majority of the stones are not synthetic if it was maybe they are from rathnapura or like that Beruwala people don’t sell synthetics I can assure it by 90% but testing the stones is must for foreign people because of the treatment of the stone

It's natural. Synthetics don't change color like that. Synthetics have a very forced and sudden color change even in multiple lighting conditions. Because of it's rarity there is no price like we see in Sapphire or Ruby. For example, stones which are widely available can be valued based on supply and demand. How do you value something which has almost zero supply and unknown demand? This is fine art category. Most of my colleagues agree that the price is basically what the buyer wants to pay. It could be 10k or 100k. There is no benchmark. This stone was sold to a lady in the US and I can't disclose the amount.
Is color change the same as color shift garnet?
Yes, it's basically the chromium content in the stone that allows it to change color. That's the magic ingredient.

@@papyluboyamukeba3989 Normally the practice is Sri Lankans travel to Africa to buy rough. The better option is if you work with a cutter in Sri Lanka and share the profits by sending rough by post. I'll ask around and see if anyone is traveling to your area and let you know. I am not too interested in tourmaline as I find it hard to move quickly. But there is a market for it and there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to make money with it.

Hi Rhylle, it's hard to say from this description but it may be Alexandrite. Get it checked out by your local jeweler, it could be worth quite a bit. Could also be a Garnet. If the jeweler thinks it's something worth investigating, send it to a lab in your country. Keep in mind that there are a lot of synthetics around so before you spend money certifying it, have someone look at it.
